Some of the world’s most powerful people in the world of tech are being grilled by congress about the safety of children online. The CEOs of five of the world’s most popular social media sites are appearing before the congress to answer questions about children’s safety online.
The heads of meta, tiktok, X, snapchat and discord are testifying before the senate judicial committee on what steps they are taking to counter child sexual exploitation on there platforms. All have hundreds of millions of young users, senators are particularly worried about the rise in reports of explicit images of children being shared including those created by artificial intelligence tools.
In his opening remarks, senator linsey graham the top republican on the committee took aim at facebook founder and ceo mark zuckerberg “Mr. Zuckerberg you and the companies before us I know you don’t mean it to be so but you have blood on your hands. You have a product that’s killing people and I use it, we all use it, there’s an upside to everything here but the dark side hasn’t been dealt with and its now time to deal with the dark side because people have taken your idea and they have turned it into a nightmare for the American people and they have turned it for a nightmare for the world at large.
